* “Seung Ri”, is the “Little Brother” of Big Bang. His name when Big Bang debuted, was “V” which is derived from Victory. YG’s staff call him “Mag-nae”, which means “the youngest or baby in a family”. Before joining Big Bang, Seung Ri was on “Battle Shinhwa”, a show that was searching for the second Shinhwa, which was one of the most successful Korean boy bands to date.

More Information about Seungri:
  • Because Seung Ri shares the same name as fellow member TOP (Choi Seung Hyun), he is often called by his stage name Seung Ri, which means ‘Victory’ in Korean. This therefore explains his very 1st stage name ‘V’ when Big Bang debuted. Otherwise, he is also called the ‘maknae’ which means the youngest.
  • Before joining Big Bang, Seung Ri was a member of Il Hwa, a Gwangju dance team which performed at various public events from August 2003 to January 2005. He was also on “Battle Shinhwa”, a show that looked for the second Shinhwa, one of the most successful Korean boy bands to date. However, he was rejected in the 13th episode because although he was a great dancer, his vocals failed to impress. However, his talent was noticed by YG’s CEO who said Seung Ri’s outstanding dance skills earned him a place in the company, as he was shocked that Seung Ri had an incredible ability to create his own dance routines for performances, and hence he was recruited into YG.
  • At the Golden Disk Awards in December 2007, Seung Ri injured his ankle during the reharsals but still performed at the awards ceremony, avaggrating his injury, resulting in him missing MBC Music Core’s 100th episode special with Daesung and TOP for the Seo Ta Ji tribute performance. On the 29th, in the middle of the ‘Big Bang is Great’ 2nd concert, Seung Ri was rushed into the emergency room when his ankle’s condition worsened during the concert. The next day, he still continued to particpate in Big Bang’s concert which brought much surprise to fans who thought he would rest due to his condition.
  • Seung Ri is also the first member of Big Bang to star in a musical. In February 2008, he was double casted for the main lead of the popular musical ‘Sonagi’, transforming from a singer to his first work as an actor. The musical ‘Sonagi’ is recognised for it’s production and popularity, based on a popular short story – describing as being a painful and pure love story which is even thought in textbooks in Korea. Seung Ri was casted for the male lead after 3 auditions at the Seoul Metropolitan Musical Theatre. He performed in 18-19 out of the 39 planned performancs of the musical in the Seoul Sejong Cultural Centre’s M Theatre from 12th April to 5th May.
  • He also showed an interest in filming and to date, is the second member to debut as an actor after fellow member, T.O.P. He filmed his first film role in June 2008. Titled 우리집에 왜 왔니 (“Why Did You Come to Our House?”), the film also stars Kang Hye Jung and featured Seung Ri as Kang\’s first love. The movie is about Byung Heel (played by Park Hee Soon), the owner of the house, who has lost his wife in an accident and suffers from dementia and Soo Kang (played by Kang Hye Jung) someone who came has left her first love during her high school time and still holds thoughts of her first love, loitering around the neighbourhood. The film was scheduled to be released at the end of 2008.

Besides the leader of Big Bang, G-Dragon also produces his own album. His first debut solo artist via the release of his debut album Heartbreaker. The lead single “Heartbreaker” was a hit, topping various charts upon release.

G-Dragon Profile :
Real name: Kwon Jiyong 권지용

Horoscope: Leo & Dragon (Ironically)
Height: 177 cm / 5’8”
Weight: 58 kg / 128 lb

Pendent: Jiyong’s favorite type of cap on a star meaning: “To become a big star in the music industry.”
Personality: He can be as loud as he wants & as quiet as he desires, depending on his mood, of course. He is extraordinarily bright & can easily lighten the mood. He has high self-esteem, an outgoing personality, & strong leadership skills. A dependable & lovable person.

More Information about G-Dragon :
  • Jiyong is the leader of Big Bang & vocalist/rapper of the group, alongside TOP. He is a widely-accepted & talented songwriter, having won the ‘Songwriter Award’ in 2007 from MKMF, Jiyong has taken on an active role of composing songs for Big Bang, such as their hit song ‘This Love.’
  • He was originally suppose to debut as a child hip-hop artist in hope of gaining fame, popularity, & success like Lil Bow Wow & Lil Romeo did in the states. However he was unable to release an album & was limited to only appearing in YG artists’ albums. On January 2001, Jiyong debuted on the album, “Daehanmingook Hip-Hop Flex” as a rapper. He was later recruited with Taeyang to act in JinuSean’s MV as their minis, which happened on February of the same year.
  • Afterward he began to train for his planned debut as the hip-hop group, GDYB, with Taeyang. During his training, he was already featured on songs & appearing in MVs by Perry, Se7en, JinuSean, Masta Wu, Wheesung, YG Family, Gummy, Swi. T, & Lexy. GDYB was allowed to release 2 songs for YG Family’s second album & appear alongside Se7en for the World Cup, but they, unfortunately, was never able to release an album nor debut. In 2004, both Taeyang & Jiyong was listed as YG’s fresh, new faces & was scheduled that year. However, those plans were quickly cancelled by Hyun Suk, who had planned on forming a 4-6 member group. It was until 2 years later, in 2006, that Big Bang was finally able to announce their official debut.

G-Dragon Plagiarism controversy :
  • Big Bang’s leader G-Dragon is under heavy criticism (again) for being unoriginal and a plagiarizer.
  • G-Dragon who has upheld the image that he is a musical and creative genius is under heavy criticism due to his song ‘Fool’ (Babo), on their 2nd mini album ‘Hot Issue’. This however, isn’t the first time he’s been under investigation, their original hit song ‘Lie’ had also gone through the same ordeal.
  • ‘Fool’ is said to have great similarities with a Japanese House song, the piano instrumentals are way too similar to be a coincidence. A YG Entertainment spokesperson however, spoke out on the issue and said that ‘Fool’ is not a re-sampling and that it is original. They stated that the similarities are just a coincidence, therefore they do not consider it as plagiarism.
  • It’s obvious that YG Entertainment will support their artists and cover up the truth. But how many more coincidences will there have to be until G-Dragon is recognized as an unoriginal con-artist and plagiarizer. G-Dragon isn’t a musical genius, the only genius that he has is being able to slip through these situations and still maintain this falsified image. What’s ironic though is how he claims to have written both songs while titling the very first one ‘Lies’, now that’s coincidence!

Info MC Mong ! ^^

MC Mong (Hangul: MC 몽) (September 4, 1979) is a South Korean hip hop artist who is known for his comic disposition and his upbeat songs. He graduated from Dong-Ah Broadcasting College. MC Mong has collaborated with many well known artists, including Kim Tae Woo from G.o.d., Ock Ju-hyun, Ivy, Crown J, Lena Park, Park Hyo Shin, SG Wannabe and Jo Sungmo. He was a member of KBS2's 1 Night 2 Days (1박 2일), a part of the network's Happy Sunday line-up. MC Mong released his fifth album, Humanimal in July 2009 after 1 year and 3 months. Allegations of military draft dodging resulted in a criminal investigation in late 2010.

Debut

Balchee Mong first debuted as a member of hip hop band People Crew, which debuted in 1998. Because he was overshadowed by other members in his group, he was not noticed until 2003, when he acted in MBC's Non-Stop 4. In 2004, he started his solo career debuting with the single "180°". He gained much more attention with the release of his third album, The Way I Am with the first single off this album "Ice Cream" ("아이스크림"). His albums are known mostly for their comedic styles (aided by humorous music videos), although his third album, The Way I Am has taken on a slightly more serious tone. His nickname is "monkey", due to his resemblance to the animal; most Korean variety shows reference this. On a fall of 2006 episode of SBS's Ya Shim Man Man, he and his good friend Haha talked about their struggles when they were first trying to break into the industry. His parents had fought with him, telling him that he should not try to become an entertainer.

MC Mong's style falls into both the k-pop and Hip hop genre. On top of his own rapping, MC Mong's songs frequently feature guest vocalists. For his third album, MC Mong flew to Tokyo, Japan to record a duet with Lisa, a former member of M-Flo. MC Mong wanted a female vocalist to continue the sequel from his first album's song "A Letter to You" (Korean: 너에게 쓰는 편지) which featured Lyn. Other vocalists featured in his album are Park Hyo Shin, Ivy, and MayBee.

Greater recognition in k-pop music

In 2006, he proved his talents as a solo artist with his album The Way I Am. This album topped the charts on November 19, 2006, beating out "big names" like Rain and Se7en.

In 2007, he started an online shopping mall called, Mong the Shop, and became a DJ on SBS Power FM radio program, hosting "MC 몽의 동고동락". He made another collaboration with Kim Tae Woo, making the single "So Fresh". At the end of 2007, MC Mong joined KBS's 1 Night 2 Days, a part of the network's Happy Sunday line-up, as the replacement for Kim Jong Min.

In April 2008, he released his fourth studio album, entitled Circus: Show's Just Begun. The first single and accompanying music video to the album was "Circus" ("서커스"), which proved to be immensely popular winning five No.1's on KBS's Music Bank. After he ended the promotions for "Circus", he moved on to promote the next single of his fourth album "Feel Crazy" ("미치겠어").

After 1 year and 3 months, MC Mong released his fifth album, Humanimal. The word comes from "human" and "animal". The first single of his fifth album is "Indian Boy" which features Park Jang Geun (a.k.a. Jang Geun-ee), who also rapped in his fourth album single, "Circus", and 13-year-old singer, B.I., who has gained a lot of attention for his rapping skills at a young age. Pre-order sales of Humanimal reached over 55,000 copies and the album is expected to do well like his past four albums, which all have passed the 100,000 sales mark. Like his past albums, many other singles from his fifth album are also doing quite well on the music charts. The fourth track, "Jin Shil, Even If You're in Heaven" ("진실은 천국에서라도"), was written by MC Mong and dedicated to the late actress Choi Jin Shil. He was unable to attend her funeral due to the filming of Happy Sunday: 1 Night 2 Days. Also, MC Mong said that it was a promise that he had made to Choi Jin Shil. He once said, "Nuna had all of my albums and knew all the track listings. She really cared for me. We got really close after skiing together once. She even joked to me once that if I should write her a song, then she will appear in the music video", and, "When the news of nuna's death broke, I wasn't able to go to her wake because I was filming "1 Night 2 Days". It was really agonizing. Even now, I feel like I owe her a big debt, but at least I managed to keep my promise of writing her a song. I hope to use this song as a form of condolence to my nuna who has now become a star in the sky. Not just Jin Shil nuna, I hope that others will not depart this world with hurt." MC Mong's management company, M.A. Wilddog Entertainment, stated that music sales for this single will be donated to charity. Track 10, "Love You 'Till Death " ("죽도록 사랑해 ") features veteran singer Jo Sung Mo, is the continuation of "Love You 'Till Death" ("죽도록 사랑해") from his fourth album which featured singer Lena Park. Track 11, "Little Sunshine" is a song he wrote dedicated to the fathers of his fellow members of 1 Night 2 Days - in particular, Kang Ho Dong, Lee Su Geun and Kim C. Track 13, "LUV D.N.A" featuring singer Navi, is a song MC Mong wrote dedicated to his classmate on the reality show "Mong Goes to Medical School". The passing of his classmate's mother inspired him to write this song.

Controversy over mandatory national service exemption

In September, 2010, allegations regarding his national service prompted the South Korean Military Manpower Administration (병무청) to conduct an investigation. Due to public outcry, he has left from all public appearances, including TV programs. Originally, according to reporters one of his dentists publicly stated that he received money from MC Mong to remove two teeth instead of repairing them. MC Mong strongly denied these allegations. On October 10 MC Mong has been officially charged with the violation of military service laws by the Seoul Central District Court. Although on MC Mong's second trial on 29th of November 2010 after four of his dentists came forward to support his case the fifth and the one previously stated who took out teeth number 46 and 47 changed his statement. He explained that tooth number 47 was acutely damaged, so he pulled it out. He pulled out tooth number 46 as there was a hole in the tooth, and explained that he could not know why the hole was there. He also explained that MC Mong had not taken good care of his teeth and most of his teeth needed either care or removal. He also explained that the police told him to write in words such as “forceful” and “intense” into his account, and that he was bothered about it constantly when he did not. He explained that he had never talked to MC Mong about enlistment evasion. He explained that unlikely the reports suggested, he had never received any money from MC Mong for pulling the teeth out, and that the reason he took the teeth out was not from MC Mong’s request. His third has held on December 20. The 4th trial is scheduled on 24 January 2011, but is postponed until February 8.

On 11th of April 2011, MC Mong was sentenced to a suspended jail term of 6 months, probation for one year, and 120 hours of community service. The court acknowledged that there was a delay in his military enlistment, however, they were unable to determine whether the star was guilty for extracting teeth for the purpose of avoiding his military draft.

Acting career

MC Mong made his first acting debut in the MBC TV sitcom Non-Stop 4 (논스톱 4) where he started to gain acknowledgment and later began his solo music career. In 2005, he starred in the TV mini-series, "Sad Love Song". Though the show was a grand production, the mini-series had low viewership ratings. In 2007, He was a leading actor on Cable chanel TVN drama program 'The Greatest Catsby' (Original work by a cartoonist Kang Do-Ha's cartoon The Greatest Catsby). In 2008, he did the Korean dubbing for Ham III, the main character from the American computer-animated science fiction comedy film, Space Chimps.

Criticism

On an episode of KBS' Happy Sunday: 1 Night 2 Days which aired on July 6, 2008, caused a lot of controversies because of a smoking scene. On their trip to Baekdusan, a scene of MC Mong smoking in the bus was not edited and was aired. In 2004, all 3 major broadcasting stations, KBS, MBC and SBS, agreed to prohibit smoking scenes being aired before midnight. The variety program's directors made an official apology on July 7 for not properly editing the scene before airing the program. This also caused a craze among his fans because he promised on another variety show a while back that he would quit smoking.
